Broadband Internet in Britain

Choosing an ISP in the UK

At the moment, the situation with the Internet throughout the country is not the best; in rural areas, the problem is even worse.

And now providers from the UK are working to fix the situation and offer faster internet.

The essence of the new project

BT, the company responsible for the fiber connection project, says it has accelerated the rollout of broadband internet. And the subsidiary now controls the main networks and says it plans to connect 3 million users in the near future.

Now, according to statistics, only 3% of houses in England are connected to FTTP. If we take Spain, then there are 79% of such houses. In Britain, in the vast majority of cases, they use old copper cable, which was relevant a dozen years ago. And the average speed is a little over 16 Mbps, while a modern connection can give 1 GB.

Of course, the company itself claims that after the plan is completed, they will move on to reaching the mark of 10 million homes by 2025. As for the question of the cost of this project, there is no information. But it just says that it will be a lot. According to preliminary information, the amount will be calculated in billions of pounds and it all starts with 3.

Project complexity

Primarily, the company wants to recoup all labor costs by cutting off the copper connections that are in use today. And at the same time, the price for the services will increase by £7, because the lease of the line will require more funds.

But over time, costs can still be minimized, because fiber will be an order of magnitude easier to maintain. And the quality of services will become much better, the number of failures is guaranteed to decrease, and the overall cost of services will be reduced.

Although there are those providers who are not satisfied with the transition to fiber. But if the old network will still work, then what is the point of this project? So there really isn’t much of a choice.

Alternative

Of course, the question arises, what’s wrong with 4G? This option can be considered as another solution. And now it is also a project that is being worked on. More than half of the population has this technology.

And many companies continue to cover more and more new territories, both within the city, and on the roads or in the countryside.

That is why the plans are to work on the 4G network as an additional project. And ultimately the goal is to position all the equipment in such a way that it connects almost everywhere.
